The day I move my pigs, I throw out some seed. The pigs’ feet throw dirt over the seeds. The plants emerge in the fall, but over winter and start growing again in the spring. I am hoping these will seed themselves this year, and add diversity to the field.
Using Permaculture design principles, I am trying to develop a source of winter feed so that the animals will help themselves, omitting the need to have large amounts of hay put up in a barn. Bamboo may fill that need. Bamboo stays green all winter in our Zone 6. |
